There is a message written on the back of the image by Gordon Donaldson to his girlfriend Edith. The message reads:  "Don't I look lovely, with love to Edith from Gordon xxxxxx".

The teacher training college at Becketts' Park became the 2nd Northern General Hospital where there were 60 officer beds, 2039 other ranks beds. Between the start and the finish of world war one 57,000 soldiers were treated there. The old workhouse in Beckett Street was also converted into a 500 bed hospital. This became the East Leeds Military Hospital.
