In 1927 it was decided to rebuild Kayes King Street premises (the building which is now occupied by the Abbey Bank). A London architect who specialised in shop construction was commissioned.
To the far left hand side of the image one can see the newly installed electric lift. The lift was quite a novelty too, it went from top to bottom of the building . the Corporation gave us direct current from the tramway supply.
