This building stood at the top of St. Peg Lane, and accommodated Mr Rufus Stead, a tailor and drapes shop c.1900. It was said to have belonged to the Brooke family in the 1840s. Could once have been the Gate Inn. In the mid eighteenth century it became the premises of Edward Sugden, Postmaster, Chemist and grocer. Could this have been where Thomas Wright and Lydia Bukhead met, before their elopement.
