This SEAC newspaper came about from a near revolt amongst servicemen. This was because all newspapers from home at the early stages of the war had to travel via the cape, and even as late as towards the end of 1943, when the Mediterranean was opened up again, newspapers could take as long as three moths to reach the men.
When reading the news very little if any was said about the war in the far east, consequently it became known as the forgotten army.
I must mention as I was camp Postman at different times. The news of what
Jane the famous Daily Mirror strip cartoon girl, who was showing frilly panties etc., was up to, gave a big lift to the boys. I had a limited supply so it was difficult to suit everybody. Adapted from an account by Reg Stone.
