Calcutta (Kolkata) is the capital of the Indian state of West Bengal. Calcutta was the commercial capital of East India, located on the east bank of the Hooghly River.
The impressive Victoria Memorial stands within 64 acres of manicured gardens. It houses a museum which contains an extensive collection of memorabilia relating to Queen Victoria and the British presence in India as well as other exhibits.
