Rev. Cassells M. A. - 35 years vicar of Batley (1839-74) during an important period. Mr. Cassells, who was born in Lancaster on march 12th 1806, was a great personality. In 1830 St. Peter's Church, Morley was opened at the court of the church commissioners and the Rev. A. Cassels was the second incumbent, being appointed in 1831. Mr. Cassels removed to Batley as vicar in 1839. His patron was James Thomas Brudenell, 7th Earl of Cardigan, of Balaclava fame, who was descended in the female line from John, 1st Lord Savile of Howley Hall.
