Some fifteen years after Ossett was granted its Borough Charter in 1890, the building of the Town Hall began. The architect chosen was an A. W. Hanstock of Batley who had also designed Horbury Town Hall. The site chosen was that of the old grammar school in the Market Place, which was demolished and the school moved to Park House on Storrs Hill Road.
On the 27th February 1906 the foundation stone was laid by the Mayor of Ossett, Councillor J Hampshire Nettleton. The cost of building and furnishing the new town hall was £22,000.
The Ossett Town Hall had its official opening day on the 2nd June 1908. An estimated 12,000 people gathered to watch the opening ceremony preformed by the Mayor of Ossett, Councillor John T Marsden.
